Verifying a US online casino license
A recognizable brand or foreign license is not proof of US state authorization. Verify the exact casino product and domain through the relevant regulator.

- Licensing is state- and product-specific.
- A logo should be checked against an official directory.
- A supplier license is not permission to accept player wagers.
Start with the activity and location
Identify whether the service offers casino games, sports wagering, poker, lottery products, or a sweepstakes model. Then identify the state where the player would physically be located. These two facts determine which official authorization needs checking.
A sportsbook can be authorized in a state where its casino product is unavailable. Likewise, a land-based casino license does not establish permission to offer online slots to everyone in the country.
Read the official listing
Use the regulator's own website and inspect the operator, platform, product category, and exact linked domain. Michigan and Pennsylvania provide official online-gaming information that separates relevant categories. A copied regulatory logo on a website is not equivalent to a confirmed listing.
Licensing records can include suppliers, management providers, and other businesses that do not directly accept wagers. Read the role attached to the entry. A familiar company name in a database is not enough.
Check the limits of the conclusion
A valid license identifies a regulatory relationship; it does not guarantee a favorable gambling outcome or make every promotion suitable. You still need the account terms, eligibility checks, withdrawal rules, and spending boundaries.
If the site is missing from the relevant official list, do not infer approval from an app-store listing, advertising campaign, or another state's directory. Ask the regulator or use its current consumer guidance.
Recheck when circumstances change
Brands, domains, partnerships, and authorizations can change. Revisit the official source when a platform migrates, when you travel, or when a national advertisement points to a different state edition. Keep the date of the check in your records.
A foreign or offshore authorization does not substitute for a US state license. Similarly, a sweepstakes business's claim of legal availability should not be described as state-licensed casino gaming unless the relevant official record supports that exact claim.
Worked example · hypothetical
Hypothetical example
A fictional brand has a licensed sportsbook in State A and a licensed casino in State B. The casino permission in State B does not authorize casino play from State A, even if both products use one app and one logo.
Common questions
Is an app-store listing proof of a gaming license?
No. Verify the specific product through the relevant state regulator.
Does a software supplier license authorize a casino website?
Not by itself. Supplier and operator roles are different and should be checked separately.
