Referral promotions and shared-household restrictions

Referral promotions combine eligibility rules with a personal recommendation. Avoid treating a conditional reward as a reason to pressure someone to gamble.

The key points
  • Both referrer and invited account may need to qualify.
  • Household and device rules can affect eligibility.
  • A reward connection should be disclosed clearly.

Map both sides of the condition

A referral award may require a new eligible account, a qualifying deposit, identity checks, or defined activity within a period. The referrer and invited person can receive different awards on different schedules. Read both sets of conditions.

A referral code is not a way to bypass state licensing, age restrictions, or self-exclusion. Nor should someone open a duplicate account because the original account no longer qualifies as new.

Inspect household rules

Promotions may limit awards by person, address, household, payment method, or device. People sharing an address can have legitimate separate identities while still falling outside a promotion's eligibility rules. Ask for clarification before either person deposits.

Do not alter addresses, borrow payment methods, or hide a shared household to obtain an award. If the terms exclude a situation, the appropriate outcome is to decline or ask for an accurate eligibility determination.

Keep the relationship transparent

If you benefit from someone registering, say so plainly. A recommendation from a friend can carry more weight than an advertisement, making the reward connection relevant. The FTC's endorsement guidance explains why material connections matter.

Avoid directing an invitation to someone who is underage, self-excluded, financially strained, or trying to reduce gambling. A personal relationship is more important than a conditional credit. Referral rewards should never become pressure to participate.

Worked example · hypothetical

Hypothetical example

A fictional campaign gives each person $10 after the invited person completes qualifying conditions. If the new account is ineligible because of a household rule, neither promised award should be treated as guaranteed. Depositing more does not correct that eligibility issue.

Common questions

Does sending a link guarantee the referral reward?

No. Both accounts and the qualifying sequence must satisfy the written conditions.

Should a friend know I receive a reward?

Yes. State the connection clearly so the person can evaluate the recommendation with that information.
